Krabi Area

Krabi is a province located in the south of Thailand. It’s easily accessible by car/bus or plane, being just about an hour’s flight from Bangkok. The province is home to approximately 500,000 residents. Its capital, also named Krabi, is a lively city where you can unwind and relax. Here, you’ll find plenty of beautiful resorts, restaurants, and cozy food markets. However, large shopping malls with well-known chains are not as prevalent. Krabi is perfect if you’re looking for a laid-back stay without the bustling party scene found in places like Phuket.

During our trip, we chose Krabi because, like you, we weren’t prioritizing parties but rather wanted to start our journey in a relaxed manner. Somewhere on a beach, soaking up the sun with a cold, fresh coconut in hand. And that’s exactly what we got! We stayed in Krabi for a whopping 5 days, specifically in the Ao Nang area, the busiest district of the capital. In addition to its stunning natural beauty, Krabi also boasts a delightful strip filled with small shops and delicious restaurants where you can taste all different Thailand classics.

Krabi – Visiting the 4 Island Tour

We kick off the list with a bang: a private 4-island tour. During our vacations/travels, we’re always on the lookout for that one activity that will leave us talking about it long after the trip ends. This year, we had arranged a boat tour with Boat and Beyond well in advance. It’s a professional company that organizes incredible tours.

We opted for the tour that took us to 4 islands. Early in the morning, we were picked up by a taxi driver who took us to the Krabi port. There, we met our fantastic guide. What made this tour ideal was that we had the boat all to ourselves, allowing us to enjoy a bit of luxury. Additionally, the tour included extras like a tasty lunch on the beach with local dishes and drinks during the journey to stay well hydrated.

For us, this was truly an amazing experience. The islands and snorkeling were absolutely stunning. It’s awe-inspiring, and having the freedom to explore at our own pace made it even more enjoyable.

Krabi – Cruising with a Speedboat tour

Feeling like going on a tour with a group of travelers or have a smaller budget available? Then opt for a group tour with a speedboat. This turned out to be a surprising activity for us. We booked it the day before at our hotel, which was quite easy, although it wasn’t entirely clear which tour we were going on, so we waited with high hopes.

In the morning, we were picked up from our hotel by a taxi and were meeting the other travelers. After checking our tickets, we boarded the boat. With about 20 people on board, we set off towards the Phi Phi Islands, Monkey Beach, and the stunning Maya Bay. After a 40-minute journey over open water and rough waves, we arrived at the beautiful Maya Bay, a protected natural area. The scenery was breathtaking. In addition to visiting other islands, there were also two opportunities to enjoy some snorkeling and jump of the boat. Snorkeling gear was provided by the helpful and friendly tour guide. It was a snorkeling experience to remember; we even saw two small blacktip reef sharks, which were on our wishlist to see in their own natural habitat. The sharks were not dangerous and were not attracted to the specific location. It was so special to see them.

Later in the day, we enjoyed an amazing lunch on the Phi Phi Islands, where we could also explore and wander around. Our last stop was Bamboo Island, one of the most amazing beaches of Thailand.

The tour was fantastic; we initially had our doubts since it was with a large group. But all in all, it was such a great experience and so much fun that we definitely wouldn’t have wanted to miss! And the places we visited were truly must-see when visiting Krabi.
