Since the Netherlands is my home country, I’d love to tell you more about all the beauty the country has to offer in this blog about the Most Romantic Getaways in the Netherlands.
Utrecht
The birthplace of my parents, a wonderful city with a bustling center in the heart of the Netherlands. It’s no surprise that Utrecht is high on my list of favorites. I’ve been there many times, with friends, visiting family, and of course, with my loved one. Utrecht is the perfect city for a few enjoyable days away, with plenty to do for a romantic trip!
Where to stay?
- Boutique Hotel ZIES: Located on the Oudegracht, a well-known street in the center of Utrecht. Hotel ZIES is a beautiful boutique hotel that offers luxury hotel rooms along with stunning views. This combination creates the perfect romantic atmosphere. The hotel is just within walking distance to our favorite restaurant in Utrecht.
- Mother Goose Hotel: A charming hotel in the vibrant center of Utrecht. Mother Goose combines historic details with modern and luxurious amenities. Perfect after a long day full of new adventures. The hotel also offers some great breakfast options.

- Visit the Dom Tower: The tallest tower in Utrecht is something you definitely can’t miss during your visit to Utrecht. Although the tower has been under restoration for quite some time, it’s a unique experience to learn more about the magnificent tower and its history.
- Boat Tour: Enjoy a boat tour through the canals of Utrecht. Will you choose a large boat with a guide? Or will you opt to rent your own boat? You can do it all in Utrecht! Ready for adventure? Choose to explore the canals with your own canoe!
- Hoog Catrijne: Explore the large shopping center Hoog Catrijne, which was completely renovated a few years ago. The shopping center offers perfect opportunities for extensive shopping.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands. It’s no wonder that this is a popular destination to visit. But fortunately, Amsterdam has a lot to offer for it as well. Moreover, it’s easily accessible from Schiphol Airport, but also by public transportation or even by car, it’s very doable. Amsterdam provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy everything Dutch culture has to offer with your loved one.

- Albert Cuyp Market: Discover the iconic market in Amsterdam. The Albert Cuypmarkt has been an integral part of Amsterdam since 1905. Walk through the beautiful streets of Amsterdam and taste delicious typical Dutch food.
Den Haag
The city of politics, the European Commission, and the famous beach Scheveningen. The Hague has been my go-to city for a very long time. It’s a great city for shopping, dining, and perfect for a weekend getaway. For me and my partner, The Hague was our very first weekend trip together. The city holds a special place in my heart.

- Mauritshuis: Explore the rich collection of the Mauritshuis, featuring masterpieces by Dutch masters such as Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Jan Steen.
Giethoorn
Giethoorn, a tourist attraction, because let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to sail through this area? Giethoorn is perfect for when you’re truly seeking that romantic location where you and your loved one can enjoy the quiet, relax and check out of our busy world. Giethoorn has so many romantic places just within walking distance and is a place worth to cross of your Netherlands check list.

- Hotel de Harmonie: Located on the picturesque canals of Giethoorn, this hotel offers comfortable rooms perfect for relaxing after a busy and enjoyable day.

- Boat tour through the canals: We have to start our tips with this activity. After all, you mainly come to Giethoorn to enjoy a relaxing boat trip through this unique environment.
- Hiking in the Weerribben-Wieden National Park: Take a romantic walk through the beautiful nature of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, located near Giethoorn.
- Visit to Museum Giethoorn ‘t Olde Maat Uus: Discover the rich history and traditions of Giethoorn in this charming museum, located in a historic farmhouse by the water.
Maastricht
We have previously discussed the enchanting city of Maastricht in our other blog. Situated on the other side of the Netherlands, this beautiful city is located in the south. Maastricht exudes a lot of charm with its charming streets, old bridges, and cozy shops. We couldn’t resist including this city in our recommendations once again. Maastricht has just so much to offer!
Where to stay?
- Kruisherenhotel Maastricht: This unique hotel, located in a former monastery, is a location you won’t come across easily again and is within walking distance of all the hotspots. The hotel rooms are really one in a kind. This romantic hotel in the city centre offers free wifi access and has even enough room to park your car near the garden.
- Bouteaque Hotel: A boutique hotel located in the historic city centre, the perfect location for all your adventures in Maastricht. Enjoy a romantic and delicious dinner. After your romantic dinner, you will be just walking straight back to your hotel room with all the great amenities like free minibar, free wifi access and a flat screen tv. Refresh in your modern bathroom and you are ready for bed and the next day. Need some space to leave your luggage? Luckily the hotel has enough luggage storage space.

At Maastricht Underground, you can combine the tour with a visit to the Fort. Perfect if you and your partner want to delve into history together.
- Boat trip on the Maas: Board in the center of Maastricht and enjoy a boat trip on the Maas River, where you can take in the beautiful views. During the tour, you’ll learn more about the city itself and get to know Maastricht even better.
