So here are our tips regarding the best travel games for your next trip!
Classic Card Games
Classic card games are a perfect choice for easy to take with you travel games. When me and my boyfriend are traveling, we always have at least 1 standard card stock playing cards with us, just in case for some fun. Their compact size and simple rules make them perfect companions for your trip.
But there are also a lot of other games that are such fun for road trips or just any of your next trips. Think of monopoly deal or exploding kitten, two games where we tell you more about in our travel board games blog. Personally, I think card games are easy to join for all the other players and a great game for making new friends.
- Uno: Uno is a personal card games favorite of mine due to its fast-paced gameplay and the element of strategy involved. It’s incredibly easy to learn, making it accessible for players of all ages, yet it offers enough depth to keep things interesting even after multiple rounds.
- Crazy Eights: Crazy Eights is another classic that I always make sure to pack when traveling. What I love most about this game is its simplicity, the objective is straightforward, yet there’s plenty of room for strategic thinking and clever gameplay. Something that I love and always makes a good games while dueling against my boyfriend. Crazy Eights should definitely be on your list of favorite card games.
- Poker: Poker is a versatile game that’s perfect for passing the time during long journeys or relaxing in the evenings after a day of exploring. Whether you’re playing for money or just for fun, there’s always excitement to be found in a game of poker. I played my first game of poker with my parents and sister. Just for fun and let me tell you, it was so much fun!
Compact Board Games
While a classic board game may be too big to take on a trip, there are plenty of travel board games versions available that are perfect for travel. I am so happy that there are compact board games, because I just love a classic board game, and this way you can still enjoy a good and classic game while traveling. Beside that they are also perfect for having a great time friends or family.
- Travel Scrabble: As a word game enthusiast, I can’t recommend Travel Scrabble enough. It’s a compact version of the classic game that’s perfect for playing on the go. I love the challenge of creating words with limited space and letters, and it’s always satisfying to come up with as many words as possible and score as many points. - Travel Chess: Chess is a popular game that never gets old, and having a portable chess set allows me to indulge in my love for strategic thinking wherever I go. I love to play chess with my boyfriend. We are both very competitive what makes the strategy game even more fun. Chess is perfect for when you want to play a quick game that fits in a carry on bag, and is a simple game to start. The travel variant doesn’t require a flat surface since it has magnets under each chess piece.
- Tiny Epic series: The Tiny Epic series is a recent discovery of mine, and I’ve been hooked ever since. These small but strategic travel board games are perfect for travel enthusiasts like myself who appreciate games that are both compact and full of depth. From Tiny Epic Galaxies to Tiny Epic Quest, each game offers a unique and immersive experience that’s perfect for playing on the go.
Word and Puzzle Games
For travelers like me who enjoy a mental challenge, word and puzzle games are an excellent choice. They are super easy to take with you as overall they are very compact. Perfect for a long flight or road trip, if you don’t get sick while reading of course!
- Bananagrams: Bananagrams is a fast-paced word game that’s perfect for playing with friends and family. I love the competitive aspect of trying to form words as quickly as possible, and the portable banana-shaped pouch makes it easy to take the game with me wherever I go.
- Sudoku: Sudoku is a personal favorite of mine when it comes to puzzle games. I find the combination of logic and numbers to be incredibly satisfying, and there’s something meditative about filling in the grid and solving each puzzle one step at a time.
- Crossword puzzles: Crossword puzzles are a classic pastime that’s perfect for relaxing and unwinding during long journeys. I enjoy the challenge of deciphering the clues and filling in the grid, and there’s always a sense of accomplishment when I complete a puzzle.
Dice Games
Dice games are a great choice for travellers since the require minimal equipment and are easy to travel with, and can be played almost anywhere. Which dice game is your favorite?
- Farkle: This is a very popular dice game which can be played by two or more players. The objective is to reach a certain amount of points, normally 10,000 points. You reach these points by throwing combinations with the dices like three of a kind or multiple of the same number.
- Zilch: Zilch is an easy to learn dice game that the whole family will enjoy. Roll as many points as possible but watch out, because you might get Zilch! This game is also know as 5,000 or greed. You must set aside scoring dices and can choose to roll the remaining dices to accumulate more points. However, if you fail to roll any scoring dice, you lose all points gained in that turn.
- Poker Dice: Poker dice are dice with playing card symbols instead of numbers. Each dice has six sides showing an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, and 9. They’re used to make poker hands. In the classic poker dice game, you need 5 dice and at least two players. Each player gets 3 rolls and can choose to keep dice between rolls. Once all rolls are done, the player with the best hand wins. Probably one of the best games to play if you like playing poker.
Mobile Apps and Digital Games
In today’s digital age, there’s no shortage of entertainment options available right at your fingertips. I love gaming, taking my switch on all my trips.
- Ticket to Ride: As a fan of board games, I was delighted to discover the digital version of Ticket to Ride. The game perfectly captures the spirit of the original board game while offering the convenience of playing on a tablet or phone. I love the strategy involved in building train routes and competing against friends or other opponents from around the world. It is also perfect when you are on the other side of the country and still want to play some board games with your friends or family.
- Heads Up!: Heads Up! is a fun and interactive party game that’s perfect for playing with a group of friends. I love how it brings people together and encourages so much fun. Whether we’re guessing movie titles or acting out charades, Heads Up! never fails to entertain and bring joy to everyone involved. This travel game is perfect for playing with other players and is just a great travel game overall.
- Among Us: Among Us is a recent addition to my list of favorite digital games, and it’s quickly become a staple for passing the time on long flights or train rides. I love the social deduction aspect of the game and the thrill of trying to uncover the impostor while completing tasks and staying alive. It’s the perfect game for fostering teamwork and suspicion in equal measure while still being able to played solo or if you like with two or more players.
