Welcome to Tilburg, a vibrant city in the heart of the Netherlands. The city that I call my home. So, as a resident of Tilburg myself, I’m excited to share with you a complete travel guide that tells you everything about the essence and charm of this amazing city.

Tilburg may not boast the fame of Amsterdam or Utrecht, but what it lacks in popularity, it more than makes up for with its diverse cultural scene.

In this guide, we’ll delve into Tilburg’s history, explore its neighborhoods as the city centre and uncover my personal favorites. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler looking to uncover new experiences, Tilburg has something to offer for everyone.

Introduction to Tilburg

Having called Tilburg my home for years, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring it for quite some time. In Tilburg you will find something new with each day. But what makes this city truly so special? Let’s delve into all things Tilburg and uncover why should visit this place:

History

Tilburg’s history is a story woven through the centuries. From its humble beginnings as a small settlement to its rise as a prominent industrial center, the city has undergone remarkable transformations. The echoes of its industrial past still resonate in the historic buildings and warehouses that dot its landscape, serving as a reminder of Tilburg’s industrious spirit. Nowadays, the city is working hard on updating the complete city, but still keeping its industrial vibe in touch. A place where you can see this perfectly is for example the library, LocHal.

Geography

Defined by its industrial buildings, green parks, and vibrant city center, Tilburg offers a delightful blend of urban excitement and natural beauty. The city’s compact size makes it ideal for exploring on foot or by bike, with charming cafes and boutiques waiting to be discovered around every corner. And let’s not forget Tilburg’s proximity to stunning natural reserves like De Loonse en Drunense Duinen, perfect for outdoor adventures.

Cultural

Tilburg’s cultural scene is as diverse as its population, with influences from all corners of the globe shaping its vibrant identity. From traditional Dutch festivals that Tilburg hosts and contemporary art exhibitions to world-class music venues and multicultural food spots, there’s always something exciting happening in Tilburg. Visitors can immerse themselves in the city’s cultural richness, experiencing firsthand the warmth and hospitality of its residents. Tilburg also has its own popular school, Tilburg university surrounded by some beautiful gardens.

So, whether you’re a history or nature lover, or a culture enthusiast, Tilburg has something to offer for everyone. So welcome to Tilburg, where every street tells a story and every corner is waiting to be explored.

Getting there and around

As a resident of the vibrant heart of Tilburg, I own my own bicycle that I use to get around. With so many attractions, restaurants, and shops within walking and cycling distance, the city center of Tilburg is the perfect place to live for those who enjoy an active lifestyle and the convenience of proximity.

When you are traveling to The Netherlands, Tilburg, by plane, I would definitely suggest landing at the nearest airport, Eindhoven Airport. This specific airport is situated about a 30 minutes car drive of Tilburg. When you are not choosing to rent a car or getting in a taxi, The Netherlands has a great public transportation system. And with that said, you can also get on a direct train from Eindhoven to Tilburg. Tilburg train station is situated in the city center, perfect to get started right away with exploring the city.
