As a proud Dutch local, I’m excited to tell you more about all the amazing places The Netherlands has to offer. I’m here to share some insider tips and personal favorites that make the Netherlands a truly special place to explore.

I have been living in Tilburg for almost my whole life. Tilburg is a cool city located in Northern Brabant. Just like any other country, The Netherlands knows different provinces and different cultures. All by all, The Netherlands already is a multicultural country with around 18 million citizens.

So, join me as we get on a journey to uncover the hidden gems and cities that make the Netherlands a destination like no other. It’s time to explore the best places to visit in the Netherlands, with a local’s insight as your guide!

1. Groningen

Groningen, a lively student city in the north of the Netherlands, is a place where creativity thrives and history comes to life. From the historic Martinitoren to the bustling Grote Markt, Groningen captivates visitors with its vibrant atmosphere and rich cultural heritage.

Dive deeper into Groningen’s charm by exploring the Groninger Museum or enjoy a relaxing walk along the canals. For a cozy stay, retreat to the Prinsenhof Hotel, housed in a historic building in the city center, offering elegant rooms and top-notch amenities. Groningen is such a different city break than the rest of The Netherlands. First of all, Groningen is a real student city, something that you will notice right away. Personally I have been in this town a few times, and it keeps on surprising me. Last time I visited the famous Groningen was in January 2024. We had a nice city break with family from my boyfriend side. We had a great trip!

2. Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the capital city of The Netherlands. Amsterdam is a city where history meets modernity along its iconic canals. From the busy streets of Dam Square to the serene beauty of Vondelpark, there’s always something new to discover around every corner.

Explore Amsterdam’s rich cultural heritage by visiting the Anne Frank House or taking a leisurely canal cruise to admire the city’s picturesque architecture. Not to be missed is the Van Gogh Museum, a highlight among Amsterdam’s cultural attractions, showcasing Dutch masterpieces by Van Gogh and other artists. For a luxurious stay, check into the Pulitzer Amsterdam, a historic hotel comprised of 25 restored canal houses, offering elegant rooms and a central location.

Amsterdam is just such a well known place. Not only for tourist but also for locals as well. I have always loved to visit Amsterdam for some great shopping trips. Besides many well known stores, Amsterdam also has a big variety of restaurants and cute cafes. All by all, that makes it the perfect place to visit in the Netherlands.

3. Keukenhof

Keukenhof, often referred to as the “Garden of Europe,” holds a special place in my heart with its kaleidoscope of colors and fragrances. As the world’s largest flower garden, it’s a place where dreams are made amidst a sea of blooming tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths.

Immerse yourself in Keukenhof’s floral paradise by wandering through the themed gardens or renting a bike to explore the surrounding tulip fields. For a convenient stay, consider booking a room at the Hotel de Rustende Jager, located just a short drive away from Keukenhof Gardens.

As Keukenhof is such a big hit, not only with locals but also tourists. It is no wonder that it is definitely on the list of best places to visit in the Netherlands.

4. Tilburg

Tilburg, my hometown nestled in the heart of Brabant, is a city of hidden gems and warm hospitality. From its industrial past to its vibrant present, Tilburg offers a blend of history, culture, and creativity.

When in Tilburg, don’t miss the chance to explore the Textielmuseum, where you can learn about the city’s textile heritage, or enjoy a cozy picnic at the Spoorpark. For a comfortable stay, consider booking a room at the boutique Hotel Mercure Tilburg Centrum, ideally located in the heart of the city.

Utrecht, with its charming medieval architecture and lively café culture, holds a special place in my heart. Climbing the Domtoren for panoramic views or strolling along the Oudegracht, this city never fails to enchant visitors with its unique charm.

Experience Utrecht’s vibrant café culture by sipping a locally brewed beer at Café Olivier or sampling Dutch delicacies at the vibrant food market, De Werf. For a memorable stay, book a room at the eye-catching Eye Hotel, situated in a renovated 19th-century building overlooking the Oudegracht canal.

If Tilburg wasn’t my place to stay, then it would have definitely been Utrecht. My love for this amazing city is so big. Let me tell you, luckily it didn’t come out of nothing as both my parents, sister and my whole family was born in Utrecht. We visited this city then quite a few times during the year. Utrecht is just such a Wonderfull city, it is definitely on the list of best dutch cities.
